Project Smile: Animal Pet Rescue! - Facility Aid & Beautification of PAWS

18 May 2017

18th & 19th May (Monday) 9:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Kossan International Sdn Bhd organized an activity at Paws Animal Welfare Society with the theme; Animal Pet Rescue - Facility Aid & Beautification of PAWS. PAWS is a non-profit animal shelter in Petaling Jaya that has been in operation since 1987. They receive the surrender of unwanted dogs and cats which they will vaccinate, deworm, neuter/spay, and put up for adoption.

Animal welfare is increasingly acknowledged as an issue of major ethical and practical importance. The society must know that animals who share our planet (sometimes our lives) also share with us consciousness, emotions, feelings, perceptions and the ability to experience pain, suffering and states of well-being.

PAWS houses more than 500 cats and dogs, including more than 30 animals which suffer from various health condition and disabilities. Most of these cats and dogs are discarded while some injured through road accidents.

Hence, the animal shelter is relying on donations to support monthly rental, utilities, wages, food, treatment, vaccination, spaying and neutering the animals.

One of the main plights of the shelter was insufficient cages to quarantine and segregate animals in the transition of receiving and treating the animals before releasing it with the rest of the pack. The shelter also lacked proper canopies to protect the animals from the harsh weather.

With this importance and regard, KISB donated stainless steel cages to house cats and dogs comfortably during segregation, quarantine and medical check-up. Other than that, KISB also contributed canopies to cover the animal from being directly exposed to the sun and rain.

KISB volunteers spent 2 full days at the animal shelter to brighten up the place to help the center welcome more public to adopt the animals. A lot of sweat, hard work and love went into clearing the area; removing shrubs, bushes, trimming low tree branches, weeding the surrounding of the animal shelter. Thanks to the contribution of paint from one of our subsidiaries - Kossan Paint, KISB volunteers also managed to repaint the exterior walls a fresh blue.

In conclusion, cats and dogs are just like us, they have instincts, feelings and needs which are important to them. This emphasize the necessity to acknowledge each individual animal’s essential value, and the fact that every single of them is not only worthy of respect and care, but also deserves to live a life that is meaningful without unnecessary human exploitation or interference.
